Unit 11
The role of
error
In this unit I learned that students
learn making mistakes. It is focuses on the kinds of mistakes
learners make when they speak or write a foreign language. So, errors occur
when learners try to say something that is beyond their current level of
knowledge. However, learners cannot correct errors themselves because they
don't understand what is wrong.
Furthermore, you have to know that
errors are natural part of learning because students usually show that learners
are learning and that their mental processes are working on
and experimenting with language. For example when you fall off
of your bicycle you know that you did something wrong and you make sure don’t
make the same mistake again. It is the same in communication because if it
doesn´t work, people try again using other words. On the other hand, developmental
and interference errors can disappear by themselves without correction
as the learners learn more language and some experts said that “correction may
only help learners if they are ready for it” .
Finally, there are three main ways
of helping learners develop their language like exposure, interaction and
the forms of the language. However, sometimes errors not
disappear, but get fossilized and to help learners with this problem they have
to focus on the form of language through exercises, reformulation (when
the teacher correct what the student has said by repeating their words
correctly).this is the correct way to correct them.
To
sum up, errors are useful not only for learners but also to teachers. They can
help the teacher see how well learners have learnt something and what kind of
help they may need in future.
Here we have extra information:
Good job!
ResponderEliminarIt is explaining in a deeply way how errors are developed and how they can be overcome. I really enjoyed watching the video you share. in addition, I got aware of the techniques we can use to correct our students and what is more to help them avoid commiting errors.
I like the information that you add in the links because they help us to have a better idea how apply the knowledge of the role of error in real situations that are presented in the classroom, I will use your posted techniques about the way how we will apply this tips into the class.
ResponderEliminarGood job Marcelo
ResponderEliminarI like the way you shared a video to clarify the topic. On the other hand, I agree with you when you said that errors are natural part of learning because learners are experimenting the language
